People & Planet - University of Warwick

BEST SOCIETY 2007

1ST MEETING: FRIDAY 12TH OCTOBER 6PM IN MEETING ROOMS 4 & 5 IN UNION NORTH - THE STUDENTS' UNION BUILDING

People & Planet are part of a nationwide network of students committed to action on world poverty and the environment.

Our campaigns include:

-Fairtrade and Trade Justice

-Treat AIDS Now

-Environmental campaigns including Go Green and Ditch Dirty Development - see www.peopleandplanet.org for more information about these.

-Control Arms and Ethical Investment

Previous achievements have included gaining Fairtrade Status for the University, and collecting 3,000 signatures three times during Go Green weeks, directly resulting in the Vice Chancellor pledging to make the University more environmentally friendly. We’ve also won the award for most improved society in 2006 and Best Society of 2007!

This year, plans include lobbying the University to implement an Ethical Investment policy, which will mean that all of their investment choices would have to conform to a socially responsible criteria. We will also be launching the Ditch Dirty Development campaign, which campaigns to end the use of World Bank and DFID funding to support oil extraction projects in developing countries.

But there’s more to be done! If you want to campaign on issues you feel passionately about, have an awesome time and meet like-minded people then join us! We've proved that mass student support can really make a difference…be part of what we achieve next:
