Voted WGA Sports Club of the Year for 2007!
The University of Warwick Golf Club is one of the most popular and active sports clubs at the University. We offer throughout the whole academic year numerous golfing opportunities for students of all levels, be it competing for the scratch team, taking part in the weekly trips to local courses, or being involved with the beginners or improvers lessons that run in conjunction with our twice weekly driving range trips open to all club members.
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
2MD OCTOBER - SPORTS FAIR - Meet the exec, sign up for lessons, and join the club!
10TH OCTOBER - SCRATCH TEAM TRIALS
Driving Range Trips
Every Tuesday and Thursday Evening to John Reay Golf Centre, Stonebridge GC and The Warwickshire (multiple destinations may be needed when demand requires it).
Meet in Rootes social at 6pm, for a 6.15pm getaway. Transport is provided by members of the club who attend the range, and these members are reimbursed for their help to cover petrol costs, so anyone with cars, your help is greatly appreciated.
The range trips are open to all club members. Equipment available to borrow from the club or at the driving range at no cost.
In conjunction with these range trips, during the first two terms we organise group lessons for beginners and intermediates run by PGA pro Rob Hunter at John Reay Golf Centre. The courses are 8 weeks long, and cost £17 in total (need to buy balls each week also). Sign up for the lessons at Sports Fair.
Bucket of balls £2.50
Golf Trips
Every wednesday (when weather permits us!), the golf coordinator organises trips to local golf courses in the area, usually at special discounted rates. Courses visited last year include Brandon Wood, Newbold Comyn, leamington and County, Kenilworth, Windmill Village, Hatchford Brook, North Warwickshire..... We also organise trips to par 3 courses for beginners to get a chance to play golf for the first time, so there really is something for everyone!
BUSA Scratch Golf Team
The golf team at the University of Warwick has had a very successful spell over the last 2 years. And to acknowledge our improvements, a 2nd team has been entered into the BUSA (British universities Sports Association) program this year. The 1sts play in BUSA Midlands 1A (fixtures here: [1]) with the 2nd team starting in Midlands 3A (fixtures: [2]).
Team trials are conducted during the first 2 weeks of term (first matches in week 3) where 20 people will be selected and offered a discounted membership at Kenilworth GC where we will play our home matches. This membership will run right through to the end of summer term, so all members will have a place to play golf whilst at University.
For details of trials, please come to see us at Sports Fair on 2nd October.
So along with the above activities, we have a packed social calender with a variety of activities throughout the year to suit all tastes. We also have had some legendary golf tours, which cater for all.
So anyway, please come along next week and see us, and get involved!
