[edit] About

The Role Playing and Wargames Society seeks to support and promote, within the context of the University of Nottingham and the wider community, all games within the genres designated role-playing games and wargames; specifically SATT (Sit Around The Table) role-playing games, tabletop wargames, board games, card games and LARP (Live Action Role-Play) games.

Our Society exists to bring together to participate in a wide range of activities. The Society is broadly divided into three areas, described in more detail below. We are always open to new members taking an interest and welcome beginners in all aspects.

The society and its members can supply equipment/games for newcomers, so you can have a taste before you get hooked.

[edit] Divisions

The three main areas of the society are described below. To find out more, visit the society stall at Freshers’ Fair, or try C40 in the Portland Building on a Thursday or Sunday (during term time). Additional information can also be found on our website, and you can always sign up on our forums to chat with us.

[edit] LARP

Every other Saturday 7pm, Main Entrance (facing the lake), Portland Building

LARP (or LRP) stands for Live Action Role-Playing, which is simply dressing up in strange costumes, running around the lake, hitting each other with foam swords. You don't have to be insane to do this, though some form of madness helps, especially as the LARP style we play isn't as serious as it could be. It is a very involved form of role-play because instead of just sitting around imagining what your character is doing, watching them on a computer screen or using models to represent them, you get to actually be them.

[edit] SATT

Thursdays 7pm, C40 Portland Building

SATT (Sat At The Table) roleplaying covers what many people think of as role playing, involving pen, paper and dice. Most people will know/have heard of Dungeons & Dragons but this is just one of many thousands of role playing games out there.

Many of the older members will be running low level campaigns for new players, as well as some specific advanced systems.

[edit] Wargames

Sundays 2pm, C40 Portland Building

'Wargames' basically covers everything that doesn't fit into LARP or SATT. The main focus is to play for fun, and the society can bring together a range of games and systems, but feel free to bring your own and find new converts.

Boardgames range from Settlers of Catan and Risk to Formula De and Carcassonne, card games from Magic: The Gathering to Munchkin, tabletop games from Warhammer Fantasy Battle and BattleFleet Gothic to Warmachine and Necromunda.
