[edit] Band Introduction
Established in 1994, Loughborough Students Concert Band is well known in the local area for its high standard of playing and lively approach to performing. It consists of about 40 enthusiastic members from Loughborough university and colleges, as well as members of the community, and has a professional conductor, Mr Aidan Geary.
The bands repertoire is very diverse and ranges from the traditional to the modern. Each year the band takes part in the National Concert Band Festival and has achieved gold, silver and bronze awards. The band rehearses every Tuesday evening from 7.30-9pm throughout term at the Music Centre on campus, next to Towers Hall (Room KK001, map grid reference H3 and number reference 74 on university maps).

[edit] Our Conductor
Aidan Geary graduated from the London College of Music /as the recipient of the ‘Simpson’ percussion prize. Upon leaving college, Aidan quickly established himself as a performer and player on the London circuit, playing on West End productions of Me and My Girl (Palladium) and Grease (Cambridge Theatre), working regularly with the Amadeus Orchestra, and touring with a number of opera companies.
In 2002, Aidan moved to Yorkshire and continued a busy playing career with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band as well as English Northern Ballet Theatre.
Aidan moved to the East Midlands in 2004 to take the post as percussion tutor at the Loughborough Endowed Schools and was delighted to be asked to conduct the Loughborough Students’ Concert Band in summer 2006.
[edit] Performance Summary
Each year in November we take part in the National Concert Band Festival(NCBF) regionals. If we are successful as we have been some years, then the nationals are held in the spring. We have had varying levels of success at this level (bronze, silver and gold awards), and in 2001 got through to the nationals. This year we won a silver award. Soundclips from this and last years performances can be found below.
Each year we also hold two concerts. In 2006 we collaborated with two other concert bands in the local area to perform a diverse musical programme.
This year the committee are keen that the band play in more concerts, after all we are a concert band! Performances in the community (e.g. parks, town centre, residential homes etc.) will demonstrate out abilities to more people and improve our playing. In June 2007 we played in the bandstand of Queen's Park, Loughborough.
We also have taken part in the annual Lufbra Fringe where we put on a workshop to allow people to try conducting the band or play percussion, and a concert later on in the day.
[edit] The Committee

Hannah Rice - Secretary
Lizi Hills - Treasurer
Charlotte Zommers - Social Sec.
Michael Ladlow - Freshers' Rep.
Chris Knight - Equipment Sec.
Currently unfilled positions: Publicity Rep.
[edit] What do we play?
We try and play a real mix of stuff of which you’ll know from TV and films as well as some other stuff that you’ll soon learn to love. There’s a real mix and so there should be something for everyone. We try to ensure that we always ensure Concert Band is fun and our music selections tend to reflect this.
[edit] Socials
If band members are all pals then this has got to have an effect on the level of playing and cohesiveness, and on the whole Band experience, so socials are a big part of the club. After every rehearsal on a Tuesday we go to Towers bar for a few drinks and a chit chat, then to Stupid Tuesdays at the Union for those who want a bit of a dance to some cheesy choons. We also organise other socials throughout the year for various nights out or day activities. A no doubt immense Freshers’ social will be taking place soon so listen out for details or check the website.
