Who we are

The Stop AIDS Campaign is an initiative of the UK Consortium on AIDS and International Development, which brings together more than 70 of the UK’s leading development & HIV/AIDS groups.

The Student Stop AIDS Campaign is an initiative of the Stop AIDS Campaign, with the aim of educating and empowering young people, to help Stop AIDS!

We are one of a number of Stop AIDS Societies formed in universities, each with their own enthusiasm and individual campaigning style.

What we do

CAMPAIGN

Throughout the year we lobby the government on specific issues to do with HIV/AIDS. Last year we encouraged the promotion of TRIPS, a clause in patenting laws that allows poorer countries to produce cheap versions of drugs that they would otherwise be unable to afford.

We hope to continue this year and push further for better access to medicines for those who need them.

FUNDRAISE

Via many fabulous events including… Talent Auctions Comedy Nights Cake Bakes Speed Dating And many more yet to come!

In the 4 years Edinburgh StopAIDS has been around, we’ve raised almost £3000, donated to various charities. Can you help us raise even more this year?

SEXUAL HEALTH

A major part of our individual society is our peer education scheme, informing to local secondary schools of the importance of sexual health. We have also worked with EUSA to re-open the c:card scheme to distribute free condoms and advice to young people and students.

What you can do

JOIN US!

Come to our meetings, get involved and help us take the society on to bigger and better things! On the agenda this term:

The StopAIDS Speaker Tour: Appleton Tower 8pm Monday 15th October. A chance to hear different viewpoints on the HIV/AIDS epidemic from people with first-hand experience.

Organising a multicultural music and food event for World AIDS Day, held around the 1st December

Planning a Masquerade Ball event with a Burlesque theme, to be held in January.

Condom and Lollipop distribution nights at Potterrow Big Cheese – hugely successful in the past and great fun!

Peer education, cake bakes and many more things – whatever talent you have, we’ll make sure you use it!

SUPPORT US!

Look out for our events and come along – they’ve never disappointed yet! All proceeds from events go to worthwhile charities.

CHALLENGE US!

If you have any ideas to improve our society and what we do, tell us and challenge us!

LOOK AFTER YOURSELF!

Look after your sexual health – use a condom and get checked out regularly at the GUM Clinic, Lauriston Place, just around the corner from Bristo Square.
