Gamesoc is the Edinburgh University Computer Gaming Society. It was founded in February 2000 and has since ballooned from a small room of dedicated nerds into the majestic institution it is today.

Calling us the “Computer Gaming Society” is a bit misleading really, since we’ll play anything from Commodore 64 to Nintendo 64 and beyond- we have just bought a brand-new Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 for the society. Many of our members keep their handhelds at… hand, and bring their own computers to our events, meaning there really is something for everyone at Gamesoc whether you’re a hardcore FPS nut or you just like waving a Wii Remote around and trying not to look silly.

Gamesoc members receive a 10% discount in Chips on Nicolson Street and 25% off the hourly rate in The Ministry of Gaming (or TMoG, abbreviation fans!) in Bread Street, as well as half-price entry to any Gamesoc-hosted events. Your first event entry is free!

We also run several joint events with other societies throughout the year (highlights from last year were our Joint Console Event with AASoc, the Laserquest trip with PhysicsSoc and the Club Night with EDGAR) and Gamesoc members will also get cut-price entry to these!

In addition, Gamesoc members have full access to our server for online gaming action at the weekends- even if you’re connected to the internet via University Resnet. This is the only way to play games online via Resnet.
