The Edinburgh University Film Society is a student society aiming to "advance the education of the public in the knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the arts; particularly the art of film and allied visual techniques."

It screens three films a week on Tuesday's Thursday's and Sunday's for a period of ten weeks each university semester. On Tuesday the society screens in the Pleasance Lecture Theater and tends to show more art house and independent films, on Thursday it shows cult classic films in its smallest venue at the Teviot Row House Terrace Bar and on Sundays it tends to show more mainstream blockbusters in its largest venue in George Square Theater. All films start at 7.30pm unless otherwise advertised and membership is open to everyone.

Membership costs £15 for the entire year for matriculated Edinburgh University students and grants the member free access into all the films (approximately 60 per year which works out at about £0.25 per film). Membership is also open to non students but for the price of £30 per year. A single semesters membership is also possible for visiting students and costs £10.

Filmsoc has a large member base and regular committee meetings are held on Monday evenings at 7.00pm in the Pleasance Executive Room to which all members are invited along with any individual curious about the film society or any members of any other society wanting to hold a joint event.
