DUCB is a non-auditioning Wind Band, currently the only one of its type in Durham. It's open to members from any college so long as they play Woodwind, Brass or Percussion, with no restriction on numbers for each part. Music ranges from Classical and traditional wind band music to more modern and fun pieces, including film and musical music.

The Band rehearses weekly every Sunday between 1-3 at the Sir James Knott Hall in Trevelyan College, working towards concerts at the end of each term. Typically, they perform a joint concert with another musical society in the 1st term, and have a major concert in the 2nd term. Whilst they don't rehearse during the third term due to the examination period, they have in recent years performed an outdoor concert in the Botanical Gardens after exams in June, whilst in 2008 they went on their inaugural tour to Edinburgh.

The band does aim to maintain a high standard for these concerts, but of equal priority is keeping everything relaxed and fun - therefore there are many socials spread throughout the year, of varying types including bar crawls, picnics and theatre trips. The 2008/09 exec team are also planning the second DUCB tour, this time to foreign parts, though plans are currently at a very early stage.

[edit] 2007-2008

The band did many things, including:

- Our main concert in the second term, including several pieces specifically arranged for the band by the two
conductors
- The first ever DUCB tour, over 4 days in Edinburgh, featuring two concerts including one in St. Giles' Cathedral, including the first ever performance by Quintessence, a quintet made up of band members
- Busking for charity at christmas
- Many socials!

[edit] Plans for 2008/09

Current Plans include:

- Two joint concerts in first term, with Voices and Brass Band.
- Potential tour.
- Lots of new music has been purchased following the success of the previous year.
