Cambridge University Amnesty International
From StudentWiki
| ||||
Thousands of people around the world are imprisoned for things that Cambridge students do all the time – expressing political opinions, criticizing the government, and exercising basic human rights like freedom of association. CUAI is a group of us who try to do something to stand up for people who are unjustly persecuted.
Amnesty International is the world’s largest human rights organisation and we campaign as part of that movement to promote human rights to members of Cambridge University, and to end specific human rights abuses.
Letter writing is our best opportunity to stop specific human rights abuses. Most colleges have a group supported by CUAI who write letters regularly to protect individuals around the world.
CUAI also runs university-wide campaigns on various Amnesty issues. Campaigns are typically planned and run by the CUAI committee, which is made up of nine elected students. If you're interested in getting involved with the committee - we plan and run the university wide AI campaigns contact us for details of when and where we meet and how you can get involved, or, generally, volunteering opportunities are advertised on our email list.
