The Chinese Society (awarded the sole best cultural society in UoB history)is a non-profit making organisation dedicated to promote Chinese culture and traditions within the university. Established in 1969(tbc)the society has grown in numbers, up to a record-breaking 350 members in the academic year, 2006-2007.

The society recently has been well documented to tackle ambitious projects, with the Fashion Show in 2006 as a good starting ground. Ex-President Lila Wong transformed an idea into reality, thus executing the first int he series of events that attracted even more western attention.

In 2007, Ex-President Bettina Ding successfully organised the first ever cultural production performed by the society members. The Banquet, as it was known, displayed a variety of cultures beautifully. Its original script for the drama was written by Miranthi Huwae, with help from Haruka Furuya and Jolie Chow. Various societies and outside groups were invited to perform at The Banquet, including most notably, Belly dancing soc, Thai soc, and the Lion Dance Troupe of Bristol university. What started off as a Living museum to display our hertiage became a multicultural event with drama, Fashion show, kungfu displays, outside performances, and the Chinese dancing (taught by Bettina Ding herself). Of all the guest that attended to see the outstanding achievement that is the Banquet at Manor Hall, the event was riddled with special honourary VIPs, such as the Manor Hall Wardern Dr Crossley-Evans, and the Mayor of Bristol at the time. Both expressed gratitude and great joy, furtherly acknowledging the show's success and congratulated Bettina - a project well done.
